First bookbinding of a series of two. A present for this next Christmas. I have enjoyed doing this bookbinding so much. The customer gave me the opportunity to be creative, not only re-binnd a book in a classic way, but do my interview to understand a little more about the recipient of the book, and do my best to make something special for her. Blue, one of the favourite colours of Susannah. My selection was a Bradel binding with two different materials, faux fur for the spine and buckram for the covers. The back cover in it original colour, a medium blue, and the front cover with different layers of paint to get the impression that I wanted to create. The first layer was done with a white acrylic-based filler , usually used for graffitti. It makes the cover look somewhate foggy without losing the blueish background. The second layer with watercolours to define the whole scenario: a giraffe eating from a tree in Africa at dawn. The third layer was done with glass paint to emboss part of the picture. In this case just the sun, the giraffe, part of the meadow and the stars. The fourth and last layers are just to give the stars a shinning effect. The end paper was painted with paste in turquoise colour and with a bamboo shape design. The edge of the end-paper on the inside part of the covers has a line of paper raffia ribbon in turquoise.
